Graduate Student Representative

Haneen Khaled Al Hakeem is an MA student in Anthropology at The American University in Cairo, where she previously earned a BA in Political Science. Her research explores grief as both a personal and socially constituted experience, examining how it is shaped by intersecting forces of culture, gender, class, and faith. She is particularly interested in the social legitimacy and recognition of grief and how loss reconfigures identities, relationships, and roles within everyday life. Alongside her academic work, she has professional experience with several non-profit and humanitarian organizations in Egypt, including roles focused on child protection, refugee support, and research.
